Friends of Lakeland School receives $12,500.00 donation!!!
During the Lakeland School student awards ceremony on November 2
2004, two special check presentations were made to Friends of Lakeland
School. One donation in the amount of $2,500.00 was received from National
Mutual Benefit Lakeshores Branch #247. David Veith was there on behalf of
NMB to make the presentation. This will be placed into FOLS general account
which is used to purchase items for Lakeland students.
Another donation of $10,000 was presented by Shirley Scharine on behalf
of her mother Lucille Ellsworth. Lucille is the wife of the late Sheridan
Ellsworth who was the original founder of Lakeland School. Scharine said
"that her father would be so proud of the students and all of their
achievements. My mother and I are so pleased to have an opportunity to
contribute." She intends to stay involved and stated "you will be seeing a
lot more of me!" The $10,000.00 will be placed into the FOLS endowment fund
to insure future funds for Lakeland School.
"On behalf of FOLS, the students, and staff of Lakeland School, we wish
to express our gratitude. Today we received not only financial support that
will help address immediate needs but the long term needs as well. We are
fortunate to have been touched by such caring people. We strive to expand
the possibilities that will help the students reach their full potential and
insure them a better future, this type of support makes that dream
achievable!" said President Randy Hawkins.
Through the generous support of private, public, and business
contributions, FOLS has raised over $60,000 since forming in May of 2002.
Current FOLS officers are President Randy Hawkins, Secretary Barb McComb,
Vice President Becky Kligora , Vice President Jenny Woelky, and Treasurer
Sheree L. Carlson. This years teacher liaisons are Julie Forseth and Doug
Pierce. |

Friends of Lakeland
School honors Lakeland School Founder and Past Teachers
The Non-Profit
organization “Friends of Lakeland School”, recently paid tribute
to Sheridan Ellsworth, Barb Morrissey,
and Ruth Patterson. Mr. Ellsworth was the County Superintendent, who in
1949, created the concept of Lakeland School.
Shirley Scharine was present
to accept the award on behalf of her father Sheridan Ellsworth. Also present
to receive awards of recognition were two of Lakeland Schools original
teachers, Ruth Patterson and Barb Morrissey. "We owe these great people for
their contributions. It is because of their belief , dedication, and vision
that has allowed so many children the opportunity to succeed, opportunities
that otherwise would not have existed." said FOLS President Randy Hawkins.
Lakeland School was formed in 1950 and
currently serves the needs of approximately 250 students with disabilities,
ranging in age from 3 – 21. Lakeland School prepares students for life with
educational and life skills. Understanding the importance of Lakeland School
and the need to insure its future, Friends of Lakeland School was formed.
The purpose of this non-profit organization is to be an active force in the
continual enhancement of the educational opportunities available to the
students attending Lakeland School of Walworth County. Current
Officers are Treasurer Sheree L. Carlson, CPA, Secretary Barb McComb, Vice
President Becky Kligora, Executive Vice President Jennifer Woelky, and
President Randy Hawkins. Sheree is a certified public accountant in Lake
Geneva, Barb, Becky, Jennifer and Randy are all parents of children who
attend Lakeland School. Working with the officers are two liaisons, from
Lakeland School, Joan Stradinger and Doug Pierce.
